Philippians 2:1-13 September 28, 2008 “Emptied to Be Filled”
1 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death– even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Encouragers, Sharing in the Spirit, Compassion and Sympathy
Hallmark of those in Chirst:
How do you do it?
Have the same mind as Christ
Be in full accord and one mind,
Look not at your interest, but the interest of others first.
Here is the mind of Christ:
God wants to be so close that he became a person
And moved in with us.
Taking on the weakness, temptations, fears, and dangers
We face, and shows us, THROGH HIS OBEDIENCE
And SACRIFICE ON THE CROSS
So that everyone would know, see, and have a way of SALVATION
Just as God is in Christ Jesus – So God is works in you.
Work out your own salvation: Accept, Follow, Trust: for yourself
With fear and trembling: respect and awe
Have the mind of Christ and all is fulfilled…
Empty your mind: do not think of John McCain/ Barak Obama
Empty your mind: do NOT think of money, debt, stock markets
Empty you mind: do not worry, dread,
Empty your mind: Empty your thoughts: Be an open Vessel
See yourself as an EMPTY
empty pot, an opened jar, a brand new box, reformatted hard drive
a new house with no furniture or furnishings, a fresh new sponge
What will you drink up? What will you receive?
What will you believe? Who will you trust?
Who will you fear? What will motive you?
What will satisfy you? What will tempt you?
Who will test you? What will free you for Christ?
What will weight you down? Who will you let into your heart?
FILL YOUR HEART WITH:
Encouragement, Sharing Spirit, Compassion and Sympathy
Show the best, Live in Spirit, Care from the Heart, See from all sides
EMPTY YOUR SELF of yourself,
and FILL yourself with Christ.
