25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you–you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Give thanks to God…
A parent at a very affluent parent’s meeting:
“I’m Thankful for my Jaguar and our of living.”
James the homeless crack-addict sleeping in basement:
“I am thankful for warm sleeping bag on a rainy night.”
Don’t be anxious about clothes and food?
Don’t be anxious about food and clothes…
We are called to look at the birds and the flowers.
So when you open an empty box at Christmas morning,
I suppose the text means we are wear the clothes God has given us!?
Christmas Shopping Forecast projects sales will be slow.
An interesting balance: most profits will be made for retailers
Between Thanksgiving and Dec. 10th . Because retailers have less
Credit, they have less inventory, and those that do will compete with
Retailers who start sell off after the 10th competing with each other.
As for Clothes… it might not be the year to expect clothes from
Abercrombe, Gap and Aropostal instead the brands carried at
Sears, Penny’s, Target, Cosco and Walmart are to be expected.
And even in this economic crunch time, Grocery stories and pharmacy retail are expected to be leaders.
We are going to eat our worries away instead of shop them..
Imaging Christmas festivities without the food celebrations:
Instead of eating a parties and dinners, spend the occasion:
Singing, storytelling, small group conversation and listening.
Instead of ugly ties, sweater that are too tight, and must have shirts
That will only be worn three times or a third pair of house shoes: what
If we shared our talents and skills. Coupons for service and labor,
How much energy goes into planning and preparing for our celebrations, much less our everyday…
What’s for dinner? What should I wear? Does this make me look fat?
How many points do I have left? How much water have I had today?
We all worry about these things..
Worry, Anxious, Focus, Attention..
How much time is used to do the basics ?? See CHART
What if we took the 1% prayer 1% care for others
Dipped into the eating, shopping, working, traveling, TV/Movies
And worried less about physical needs and invested
In our spiritual needs.. gentiles get the first part..
Thankful… first three, family, home, country… then the next three:

Put God First, day by day and you can give thanks for God is ALL things.
13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Go to Meceirs and ask for the bruised and seconds that they would not serve or sell even for juice. Those are the ones I want.
Go to your broker or financial planner and say, I want to invest in stocks that are mediocre and perform well occasionally, but aren’t very dependable.
Go to utility companies and say, I want your services only when I absolute must have them, but rest of the time I’m not going to use them, nor pay for them.
1. We are a culture seeking Excellence. We want to support champagnes, winners, and gold medalist,
2. We want to be first in business, first in flight, and first in the eyes of the world.
3. What about Church… its ok for it to be on the back burner?
SINCE WE LIVE BY THE SPIRIT, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Why don’t we experience the gives of the Spirit.. many times — we are running ahead of God.
We are not called to be the best, we called to be in step, to be following Christ.
The Fruit of the Spirit is experienced, when we act the “plant” we were planted to be.
If we are to be ears of corn, producing 100 fold, with each ear…
we can’t do this when we are trying to be okra.
God calls us to be faithful… in step… followers….
If you keep on biting and evouring each other watch out or you will be destroyed by eachother.
Love God Love your neighbor as yourself.
This is what we have been given the freedom of Christ to do… don’t settle, don’t trample, don’t devour… LOVE God and your neighbor, do this with Excellence.
Nov 1 RISK-TAKING Missiology: Risky Business (Ps 8, Rev 21:1-6, Matt 25:31-46)
31 "When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne. 32 Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats, 33 putting sheep to his right and goats to his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. 35 And here’s why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, 36 I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 "Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? 38 And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ 39 40 Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me – you did it to me.’ 41 "Then he will turn to the ‘goats,’ the ones on his left, and say, ‘Get out, worthless goats! You’re good for nothing but the fires of hell. 42 And why? Because – I was hungry and you gave me no meal, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was homeless and you gave me no bed, I was shivering and you gave me no clothes, Sick and in prison, and you never visited.’ 44 "Then those ‘goats’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn’t help?’ 45 "He will answer them, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me – you failed to do it to me.’ 46 "Then those ‘goats’ will be herded to their eternal doom, but the ‘sheep’ to their eternal reward." -The Message
The Risk of Not Taking this Passage as Truth.
..is becoming fire wood in Hell.
Risk-Taking Mission / Risk-Taking Service
Money comes and goes, but heart2heart lasts
How many hungry people…
8% of 22,000 is around 1760 people..
How many thirsty people…
$1000 clean water $ a village/ a farm 4yrs
How many people are in our jail?
They report 6 – murder, drugs, burglary
How many people have more than 3 coats?
How many people do not have one?
What if we took the real risk of doing what we know is right…
Instead of simple talk about it, we did it.
There would be 50/100 less hungry, thirsty, homeless, lonely…. If all of us reached out to
Neighbors here and neighbors abroad…
We could do that one time each year?
We could do that once a quarter
We could do that every week.
We could do one every day.
What are you doing for Jesus today?
What is on your calendar for Jesus Mon.
On Tues? On Wed? On Thur?
On Fri? On Sat? or Next Sunday?
What does it really matter?
The Sheep vs. The Goats…
What’s the line of that game?
Jesus’ cheer for the sheep: Come On Home
Jesus’ cheer for the goats: Get Out & Go2Hell
Now I’m not being crass,
I’m reading Scripture…
Take a Risk?
The Risk is NOT caring for our neighbor
The Risk is NOT caring for the stranger
The Risk is NOT going global
The Risk is NOT getting YOUR hands dirty
The Risk of being a Goat instead of a SHEEP
Be sour? Be selfish? Be sensible? Be cautious.
