Some Don’t Grow, So, Som Some More Matthew 13.1-9, 18-23

13:1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. 13:2 Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach.

13:3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. 13:4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. 13:5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 13:6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. 13:7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 13:8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
13:9 Let anyone with ears listen!”

13:18 “Hear then the parable of the sower. 13:19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. 13:20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 13:21 yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. 13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. 13:23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Baseball Players are at the height of their game if they are batting .400 600 times out of a thousand, they get no hit.

Witnesses:
Some people who hear you talk about your faith are like birds who are interested in the moment. They want to discuss or listen, but they are not ready to believe or trust what you believe and trust.

Some times when you muster courage to share your faith folks will hear what you have to say and believe the knowledge to be true and accurate, but not trust it for themselves.

Other times folks are busy and focused on other interests and concerns and are un-interested or even bothered and your seeds of faith, your jewels if wisdom, your insightful, heart-felt words feel completely wasted.

Still, on other occasions, you share your faith and others challenge or debt or question you and you simple choke, clam up and back down.

And 20% of the time, 1 out of every 5 attempts, you find someone who is ready to listen, grow and believe and trust your faith experiences.

So do we skip the 80% and wait for the perfect time to share, sow, invest, risk? That is NOT Jesus’ model in this parable…

The sower sows, in all climates, weather, terrains and situations.
Because we are not called to judge, who or when someone is receptive. OUR TASK IS TO TELL IT.

REPORTS: Who in boldness shared their faith this month?
WITNESSES ?

Who tried and feel like the failed? If you tried you didn’t,
IF YOU DIDn’t, you did fail.
It is said of George Steinbrenner, “Either you will be fired passionately about your participation or you will
be passionately fired.”

Success is not in the response, but in the responsibility of sharing what we know of Jesus Christ with others.
When we neglect this task, this priority

Let anyone with ears, listen: Are ears suppose to speak? No
Are witnesses suppose to keep quiet, reserve and silent? No

Are you going to wait or sow your seeds….
What’s holding you back? Hear the parable and do likewise:
